Bubble hash pressed into rosin returns 30% to 80% of the starting hash weight. The grade of the hash sets the range. Six-star full-melt hash returns 60% to 80%. Five-star hash returns 50% to 70%. Four-star and cooking-grade hash returns 30% to 50%. Trim hash with visible leaf matter returns 20% to 35%.

Yield math is simple. Divide rosin weight by hash weight, then multiply by 100. A 10 g press of five-star hash at 60% returns 6 g of rosin. A 10 g press of cooking-grade hash at 35% returns 3.5 g.

These ranges come from press operators and equipment makers, not from a lab standard. Two jars of hash from the same plant can land at different numbers.

Yield by hash grade
- Six-star (full melt, 73 to 159 micron): 60% to 80%. Heads melt into a clear oil with little residue left in the bag.
- Five-star (mostly heads, light contaminant): 50% to 70%. Some residue stays in the mesh.
- Four-star (mixed heads and stalks): 30% to 50%. Color in the rosin runs darker.
- Cooking grade (leaf, stalk, dirt): 20% to 35%. The bag holds most of the input.
- Second press of spent pucks: adds 5% to 15% of the original hash weight, at lower quality.
Press settings that move the number
Temperature
Hash presses run between 160 F and 220 F (71 C to 104 C). Most hash runs sit at 170 F to 190 F. A 10 F drop cuts flow and lowers return. A 20 F rise adds return and drags plant waxes into the rosin.

Pressure
Target 500 to 1,000 PSI at the bag surface. Gauge readings on the pump frame do not match bag pressure. A 2 by 4 inch bag spreads force over 8 square inches, so plate force must be higher than the bag number.
Time
Run 45 to 120 seconds. Watch the drip. When flow stops, hold longer adds nothing.
Bag size
Use 25 to 37 micron bags for hash. A 37 micron bag is the common choice. Flower rosin uses 90 to 160 micron bags. A bag that is too wide passes contaminant and lowers quality, not yield.
Moisture
Hash at 50% to 60% relative humidity presses best. Bone-dry hash crumbles, traps rosin in the mesh, and drops return by 10 points or more. Wet hash steams and blows out the bag.
Steps to get a clean reading
- Weigh the hash to 0.01 g. Record the grade and sieve range.
- Pack the bag loose. Overfilling blocks flow at the seams.
- Set plates, wait 10 minutes for temperature to settle, then press.
- Weigh the rosin after it cools. Record temperature, pressure, and time.
- Repeat with one change at a time. Change two settings and the data is noise.
What lowers return
- Grinding or breaking up hash before pressing. It spreads contaminant into the melt.
- Cold plates. Rosin thickens before it leaves the bag.
- Bag blowouts at the seam from too much pressure too fast.
- Hash stored in open air for weeks before the press.
- Reading the pump gauge as if it were bag pressure.
Squish a 5 g test puck before a full run. Two test presses cost 10 g of hash and tell you the real number for that batch.
