Cannabis concert etiquette: the short answer
Keep it legal, keep it low-key, and keep smoke and vapor away from people who did not choose to be around it. Follow the venue policy, state law, and local rules first. Etiquette at a concert means your cannabis use does not affect another guest's air, space, or safety.
Before you go
Prerequisites: you must be 21 or older, you must be in a state where your product is legal, and you must know the venue's cannabis policy. Check the event page and your ticket terms before you leave home.
- Read the venue policy on cannabis, smoking, vapor, and outside food or drink.
- Confirm the state and local rules for public consumption at the event location.
- Carry a government ID that shows you are 21 or older.
- Leave legal cannabis in its original sealed package until you reach a permitted place.
- Plan a sober ride home before you use any cannabis product.
At the venue
- Ask security or staff where cannabis use is allowed, if anywhere.
- Keep all products sealed and out of sight in line and at the gate.
- Use cannabis only in a designated area, never in a crowded aisle or seated section.
- Stand downwind and away from children, staff, and guests who are eating.
- Take one small dose and wait at least 30 minutes before considering more.
- Put out and pack out any leftover material, ash, or packaging.
Sharing, dosing, and smoke
Sharing is optional. Ask before you offer, and respect a no. A concert is a poor place to test a high dose of an edible because the effects can last for hours and you cannot leave the crowd easily. If you vape or smoke, keep the cloud small and brief, and move away from anyone who signals discomfort.
handling cannabis at party dos and don'ts
- Do not pass a joint or vape to a stranger without asking.
- Do not blow smoke or vapor toward other guests.
- Do not use cannabis in a venue that bans it, even if other guests are using.
- Do not mix cannabis with alcohol or other drugs if you need to stay alert.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a concert crowd means public use is allowed.
- Lighting up in a seated section or under a canopy where smoke stays trapped.
- Bringing unsealed products that violate venue rules or state purchase limits.
- Offering an edible without telling the person the dose and the ingredients.
- Leaving wrappers, ash, or half-smoked products on the ground.
Leaving the show
- Check your seat and the ground for your belongings and any cannabis packaging.
- Place used packaging in a closed trash bin, not on the floor or in a planter.
- Use your planned sober ride and keep products closed and stored during travel.
