A starting dose of marijuana concentrate is 2 to 5 milligrams of THC. Concentrates test between 60% and 90% THC, so a piece the size of a grain of rice can carry 20 mg or more. Dose in milligrams, not in puffs.
Cannabis Concentrate Dosage: How Much THC to Start With
Before You Start
- Read the package label for total THC percentage and net weight.
- Have a scale that reads to 0.001 grams, or a dosing tool made for concentrates.
- Set a timer.
- Pick a product with no more than 70% THC if you have no tolerance.
- Choose a sober person to check on you for your first session.
How to Dose Concentrates
- Write down the THC percentage from the label.
- Convert the percentage to milligrams per gram. Multiply the percentage by 10. A 70% concentrate equals 700 mg of THC per gram.
- Choose your target dose in milligrams. New users start at 2.5 mg. Users with tolerance start at 5 mg.
- Divide your target by the mg per gram. For 2.5 mg at 700 mg per gram, the target weight is 0.0036 grams.
- Weigh that amount on the scale or place that amount on a dab tool.
- Inhale one small hit if you vape or dab.
- Start a 15 minute timer.
- Wait out the full 15 minutes before you consider another hit.
- Note the effects at the 15 minute mark.
- Add 1 to 2 mg if the effect is too mild.
- Wait another 15 minutes before any further dose.
For edible or tincture concentrates, the math is the same but the clock is not. Onset runs 30 to 120 minutes. Wait two hours before you add more.
Adjusting Your Dose
Keep a log with the date, product, THC percentage, dose in milligrams, and the result. Raise your dose by 1 to 2 mg per session, not per hit. Stop at the dose that gives the effect you want. THC tolerance builds with daily use, so a two-day break can drop your dose back toward the starting point.
Safety Notes
High-THC concentrates can cause anxiety, paranoia, rapid heart rate, and vomiting. Call 911 or Poison Control if someone has chest pain, cannot stay awake, or shows signs of psychosis. Do not drive after any dose. Store concentrates in a locked container away from children and pets.
