How to Use a Dry Herb Vaporizer
A dry herb vaporizer heats ground cannabis to a set temperature. The plant material releases vapor without burning. A full session takes about two minutes from a cold start. You need ground flower, a charged device, and a free hand for the draw.
What You Need
- Dry herb vaporizer with a charged battery
- Ground cannabis at a medium consistency
- Grinder
- Small brush or cleaning pick
- Isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs for maintenance
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Charge the battery until the indicator shows a full load.
- Grind the flower to a medium consistency, so the pieces break apart with light finger pressure.
- Open the chamber or oven by removing the lid, mouthpiece, or bowl.
- Fill the chamber with ground herb and leave a small gap at the top.
- Pack the material with light pressure, since a tight pack blocks airflow.
- Close the chamber and check that the seal sits flush.
- Turn on the device and set your target temperature.
- Wait for the heat-up signal, which takes 30 to 90 seconds on most battery units.
- Draw vapor into your mouth with a steady pull, holding the button if your device has one.
- Inhale the vapor into your lungs, then exhale.
- Wait 15 to 20 minutes before the next draw, because effects build over time.
- Stir the load with a pick after three or four draws to expose fresh material.
- Stop when the vapor turns thin or tastes like toasted popcorn.
- Empty the chamber while it is warm and tap the spent material into a waste bin.
- Brush the chamber and screen, then wipe the mouthpiece with isopropyl alcohol every few sessions.
Temperature Ranges
Temperature changes both flavor and vapor volume. Start low and step up through the session.
- 320 to 350 °F: light flavor, mild effects, good for daytime use
- 350 to 375 °F: balanced flavor and vapor volume
- 375 to 400 °F: heavier vapor and stronger effects
- Above 410 °F: close to combustion, with a harsh taste
Common Mistakes
- Overfilling the chamber, which cuts the air path through the load
- Grinding too fine, which clogs screens and pulls plant material into the mouthpiece
- Pulling hard, which cools the oven and reduces vapor output
- Skipping the stir, which leaves one side of the load unheated
- Discarding already vaped bud, which still holds cannabinoids and can be saved
Cleaning Schedule
Clean the chamber after every session and the air path once a week. Resin buildup lowers flavor and restricts airflow. Replace screens when they stop passing air. Store the device in a dry place with the battery removed if the model allows it.
