Start with the genetics
Chem Dawg, also written Chemdog, traces to a bag seed grown in 1991. The line spread as cuttings. No original seed stock exists for sale. A pack labeled Chem Dawg holds one of three things: selfed seed from a Chem Dawg clone (S1), a backcross to a Chem Dawg clone (BX), or a cross with another strain. Ask which one before you pay.

Check the law in your state
Federal law places cannabis seed above 0.3% delta-9 THC in Schedule I. Hemp seed at or below that limit falls under the 2018 Farm Bill. State rules run on top of federal rules. Some states ban seed sales. Others require a licensed retailer. Confirm your state rule before ordering, and confirm the seller ships there.
Parameters to compare
- Sex type: regular, feminized, or autoflower. Regular packs cost less per seed and produce male plants.
- Generation: S1, BX1, BX3, or F1. A stated generation means the seller tracked the cross.
- Parent plants: named clone or unnamed. Unnamed parents mean unknown lineage.
- Pack size and price per seed. Compare per seed, not pack price.
- Germination policy: replacement terms, time window, and the proof the seller wants.
- Test data: THC range of the parent plant, if published.
- Ship origin. Seed shipped from inside the US avoids customs seizure.
Questions for the seller
- Which cut is the mother plant, and how was it sourced?
- When was this seed lot produced?
- What is the germination rate on this lot?
- What happens if a seed does not germinate?
- Do you ship to my state?
Pitfalls
- A pack named Chem Dawg with no lineage note. The name sells; the seed inside may be a random hybrid.
- No breeder credited. White-label seed is common.
- Claims of original Chem Dawg seed. The original is a cutting.
- No germination terms on the site.
- Payment by a method with no reversal, and no tracking number.
- Prices well under market. Chem Dawg crosses run about $5 to $15 per feminized seed in the US. A $1 seed is a different product.
Storage after delivery
Seed keeps for years in a sealed container at 4 to 8 C, dark and dry. Label each pack with the date and the breeder. Heat and moisture cut viability.
